New books!

I was actually supposed to blog last week about my new books (the day after I made my first yt video in fact) but it's been a busy week and my boyfriend was here for a few days too.. anyway..

So yeah! New books! Whoop whoop!

Me and Earl and the Dying Girl by Jesse Andrews

The Lie by C. L. Taylor

The Evolution of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin (second book in the Mara Dyer series)

I also got book nr. 18 in a norwegian series called Misteltein (Mistletoe in english) the same day I bought these ones, but in the mail :)

So exited to read them all! (apart from the norwegian one because I finished it in just a few days :P )

I'm still reading the last book in The Century trilogy by Ken Follett so it might take a while before I will do a review on that one. So i guess in the mean time I will write about other books that I've already finished and maybe make some videos.. (already got 3 videos that I haven't edited yet..hopefully they will be up soon!)

And that's it for now!

Got some news!

So... I've been thinking about this some time and now I've finally done it! *drum roll* I got myself a youtube channel!

I know! Can't believe it myself! AAHH! So anyway, I'm going to do most of the same things there as I do here. I have to say that it's more awkward to record a video instead of just writing things down. Looking at myself and hearing my own voice..yeah...awkward and the whole editing part which I'm not so good at...I studied graphic design not movie stuff but hopefully I will get better at that too.

I'm pretty sure that I will blog more than making videos because I live at home with my parents and feel a bit uncomfortable talking to myself in front of a camera while they're upstairs and can hear most of the stuff that I would talk about... That means that, when I'm home alone there will most likely be a new video up or I will make a few videos in one day and then upload them when I feel like it :P

If you want to check out my channel then here it is! Come and say hello!

Winter of the World - Ken Follett

The second book in The Century trilogy by Ken Follett. This time the story is set to the time around WWII. If you haven't read the first one then you should!

Finally finished this last night..It took me over a month to finish it, but now I'm done and can start on the last book! But first: My thoughts!

The Blurb:
Five interlinked families live out their destinies as the world is shaken by tyranny and war in the mid-twentieth century.

Berlin in 1933 is in upheaval. Eleven-year-old Clara von Ulrich struggles to understand the tension disrupting her family as Hitler strengthens his grip on Germany. Many are resolved to oppose Hitler's brutal regime - but are they willing to go so far as to betray their country? Such people are closely watched by Volodya, a Russian with a bright future in Red Army Intelligence.

At Cambridge, Lloyd Williams is irresistibly drawn to dazzling American socialite Daisy Peshkov, who represents everything his left-wing family despise. But Daisy is more interested in aristocratic Boy Fitzherbert - amateur pilot, party lover and leading light of the British Union of Fascists.

In this spellbinding epic, the international clash of military power and personal beliefs will sweep over the world, from Cable Street in London's East End to Pearl Harbor in Hawaii, from Spain to Stalingrad, from Dresden to Hiroshima.

My Thoughts:
I enjoyed this book as much I enjoyed the first one! The main characters in this book are the children of the ones that was in Fall of Giants. It was a bit weird reading about their kids and not the people I got to know in the last book, but they were still there in the background so it was ok :P I also have to admit that it took me some time to know which kid belonged to whom, but in the end I started to remember. Apart from the confusions about the new characters, I thought it was as exciting and as thrilling as the other. The main characters get in a lot of danger in this book too and you just sit there and hoping that everything will be alright and that they will survive.

During this book I had tears in my eyes, I was worried about the characters, and I smiled when something bad happened to an annoying person and/or when something good happened to the characters.

Cinder - Marissa Meyer

This is the first book in The Lunar Chronicles series by Marissa Meyer. It's a whole different world with old disney characters brought back to life in whole new ways (if that made any sense). This book is about Cinder (don't have to tell you who she's based of)  and in the other books we meet Scarlett (Little Red Riding Hood), Cress (Rapunzel) and Winter (Snow White). The last book, Winter, was released few weeks ago.

The Blurb:
Cinder,  a gifted mechanic in New Beijing, is also a cyborg. She's reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister's sudden illness. But when her life becomes entwined with the handsome Prince Kai's she finds herself at the centre of a violent struggle between the desires of an evil queen - and a dangerous temptation.

Cinder is caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal. Now she must uncover secrets about her mysterious past in order to protect Earth's future.

A forbidden romance.
A deadly plague.
Earth's fate hinges on one girl...

This is not the fairy tale you remember. But it's one you wont forget.

My Thoughts:
I saw this book in a youtube video earlier this year and wanted to check it out. I grew up with the good old disney so I was excited about this one. It's a whole different world with good old disney princesses in an alternative universe. Cinderella is a cyborg who works as a mechanic. The prince is there (and still handsome) and her stepmother is the same. Aaaand there's also the Evil Queen of course. Sooo..what's not to love?  Let's just say that I loved it so much that I had to buy the next two books. (had to wait for the last book since it got released few weeks ago.. :(  I finally got it noow!:D ) The whole story is great and I can easily connect the names in these books with the old characters.

It would have been awesome if someone made The Lunar Chronicles series into movies.

Anyway.. I fell in love with this series and can't wait to read the last one! And I will most likely read them again some day!

Still reading

It's been a busy week with baking and decorating christmas cake/cookies with my mum and having my boyfriend staying over for a few days. This also means that I haven't finished reading Winter of the World yet. Hopefully I will finish it by tomorrow evening. In the meantime I will write some more reviews about books I've already read :)

Got nothing else to say other than I still enjoy the book I'm reading and can't wait to read the last book in the The Century trilogy.

See you later!

After You - Jojo Moyes

Ahh...the long awaited sequel to Me before You by Jojo Moyes. I loved Me before You (I wrote a review earlier on this book in case you want to read it) and been waiting for this since the day I found out there was going to be a second book. If you haven't read the first book then you should do that before you continue to read this review. This have some spoilers.

The Blurb:
Lou Clark has lots of questions.

Like how it is she's ended up working in an airport bar, spending every shift watching other people jet off to new places.

Or why the flat she's owned for a year still doesn't feel like home.

Wether her close-knit family can forgive her for what she did eighteen months ago.

And will she ever get over the love of her life.

What Lou does not know for certain is that something has to change.

Then, one night, it does.

But does the stranger on her doorstep hold the answers Lou is searching for - or just more questions?

Close the door and life continues: simple, ordered, safe.

Open it and she risks everything.

But Lou once made a promise to live. And if she's going to keep it, she has to invite them in...

My Thoughts:
I loved it and I want more! I was so happy to read about Lou again after few years. I smiled and laughed and also had tears in my eyes while reading this. (The same happened when I read Me before You.) It's not very often you get to read about what happens with characters after you have finished a book so for me it was nice to read about Lou again and see where she was and what she was doing after the huge loss of a loved one. Did she keep his promise to live her life? Where is she now and what is she doing? This is a few of the questions you get the answers to when reading this book. This is a charming, loving and heart-warming sequel that I'm so going to read again and again.

The ending was great and I really hope Jojo Moyes is going to write more about Lou's new and better life.

Just live well.

You - Caroline Kepnes

The vampire diaries on twitter talked about this book earlier this year and I wanted to check it out so I bought it this summer. This is the first book in the You series (I think it was going to be a trilogy but not sure). It's also the first book I've read of Caroline Kepnes so i didn't know much about her or her books. I heard this was a book about a stalker and that was it.

The Blurb:
When Guinevere Beck strides into the bookshop where Joe works, he is instantly smitten. And so begins an attraction that quickly spirals into a whirlwind of deadly consequences.

A chilling of unrelenting, terrifying obsession, Caroline Kepnes' You is a thriller more perversely clever and dangerously twisted than any You have ever read.

My Thoughts:
Not sure where to start with this one but one thing for sure: this is a twisted story about a stalker called Joe. And it's so weird reading it because you read it from Joe's perspective and he only talks about her (you do this, I don't like that you do that and so on. That kind of perspective). It's creepy and scary and the worst thing of all is that I kinda sided with Joe sometimes while reading this. I also got a bit annoyed at the girl he was stalking too.. so yeah..weird...but I'm going to continue to read this series because it was something about this book that I just want to keep reading it.

Fall of Giants - Ken Follett

This is the first book in the The Century trilogy by Ken Follett. This is also the first book I've read by him. This trilogy is set through the early 1900's right before WWI and the second book that I'm currently reading is set to few years after the WWI ended and right before (and during) WWII. (Not sure about the last book yet since I'm not finish with the second one.)

The Blurb:
Five families are brought together through the world-shaking dramas of the First World War, the Russian Revolution and the struggle for votes for women.

It is 1911, and the coronation day of King George V. Thirteen-year-old Billy Williams begins his first day at work in a coal mine.

The Williams family is connected by romance and enmity to the Fitzherberts, aristocratic coal-mine owners. Lady Maud Fitzherbert falls in love with Walter von Ulrich, a spy at the German Embassy in London. Their destiny is entangled with that of Gus Dewar, ambitious young aide to U.S President Woodrow Wilson. Two orphaned Russian brothers soon become involved, but Grigori and Lev Peshkov's plan to emigrate to America falls foul of war, conscription and revolution.

Fall of Giants combines richly developed historical detail with fast-moving action and powerful emotion to deliver this absorbing narrative.

My Thoughts:
For someone who had enough of the whole WWI and WWII history in class I really enjoyed this book! My dad recommended this for me and after I downloaded the preview to my iPad to check it out, I got hooked from the first page. He had already told me a little about this book so I knew there were five different families and they all got connected somehow. I wasn't really sure if I would like this book since it's about the war and it's not something I would have bought right away if it wasn't for him. But here I am..already reading the second book and can barely put it down so yeah..

Anyways, this book is really good and it's an amazing story about five families in different countries who somehow get connected one way or another. I have smiled and also had tears in my eyes few times during this book and am so glad that my dad convinced me to read this. I regret nothing!

New book!

Got a new book in the mail today! Whoop!

The last book in the The Lunar Chronicles series, Winter by Marissa Meyer.

I loved the previous books in this series so I'm looking forward to read the last one! Which (unfortunately) might take a while because I'm already reading the second book in the The Century trilogy by Ken Follett that my dad recommended. We'll see if I take a break from Ken Follett after I finish reading the second book or finish the final Century book before I move on to Winter.

Since I'm already here I wanted to talk a little about the one I currently read. I think The Century trilogy is great so far. And that says something, because I feel like I've heard enough of WW1 and WW2 in the History class and don't really want to watch or read about it since I'm not into it so much. I know what happened and all, and that is enough for me...buuut this trilogy i enjoy. I've read the first book, The Fall of Giants and had to read the next one. So now I currently read the second book, Winter of the World, and am still hooked. It's a great story and you get to know five different families in the first bok and then, in this book, you get to read about the story of the children to the ones that was in the first one. That sounded weird in my head but I'm going to write about the first book tomorrow.

I hope I'll see you soon!
For now: back to reading my book!

The Cuckoo's Calling - Robert Galbraith

The Cuckoo's Calling is the debut mystery novel in the Cormoran Strike series that J. K. Rowling have written under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith. The Silkworm and  Career of Evil are the next books in this series. I've read the second book, The Silkworm and going to buy the latest one in this series, Career of Evil, soon.

The Blurb:

When a troubled model falls to her death from a Mayfair balcony, it is assumed that she has committed suicide. However, her brother has his doubts and calls in private detective Cormoran Strike to investigate.

Strike is a war veteran - wounded both physically and psychologically - and his private life is in disarray. The Case gives him a financial lifeline but comes at a personal cost: the more he delves into the young model's world, the darker things become and the closer he gets to terrible danger...

My Thoughts:

For someone who just started to read mystery/crime books, this was a great read. I enjoyed this book and could barely put it down. All the mystery and drama and trying to figure out what happened to the girl. I tried to find out the killer and still got shocked when Strike reveals who had done it! It's a story that will keep you guessing who the real killer is and all the mystery around this whole investigation.

Me Before You - Jojo Moyes

I read this book few years ago, but I love it so much that I wanted to talk about it anyway!

Me Before You was the first book that I read from Jojo Moyes. It's one of my favourite books and I'm going to read it again sometime. There's also a sequel to this book that came out this year called After You. I've already read it and it was great to read about Lou again and to read about her life after the first book and I'm going to write about it soon.

The Blurb:

Lou Clark knows lots of things.
She knows how many footsteps there are between the bus stop and home. She knows she likes working in The Buttered Bun tea shop and she knows she might not love her boyfriend Patrick.

What Lou doesn't know is she's about to lose her job or that knowing what's coming is what keeps her sane.

Will Traynor knows his motorcycle accident took away his desire to live. He knows everything feels very small and rather joyless now, and he knows exactly how he's going to put a stop on that.

What Will doesn't know is that Lou is about to burst into his world in a riot of colour. And neither of them knows they're going to change the other for all time.

My Thoughts:

I just love this book. Got no words to describe it. Even though it's been few years since i read it, the story is still stuck in my head. If there's a book I'm going to read again then it will be this one. The story is so good that you will most likely have tears in your eyes more than one time during the book. And you will also remember it for a really long time.

Dream a Little Dream - Giovanna Fletcher

This is my first review and I'm gonna start it with this lovely book by Giovanna Fletcher! I'm bad at writing reviews (actually, writing at all) so this is me telling about this book so here we go!

From the author of Billy and Me and You're the One that I Want, Giovanna Fletcher have released a new book called Dream a Little Dream. If you haven't read any of her books, i suggest that you should! I got all her books (apart from the sequel of Dream a Little Dream) and I really enjoy reading them. She got two christmas special sequels called Christmas with Billy and Me and Dream a Little Christmas Dream.

The Blurb:

Sarah is doing just fine...
Sure, she's been single for the last two years, and has to spend an uncomfortable amount of time around her ex-boyfriend, his perfect new girlfriend and all their mutual friends. And yes, her job as a PA to one of the most disgusting men in London is mind-numbingly tedious and her career is a constant disappointment to her mother. But it's really okay. She's happy(ish).

So it's not surprising that when Sarah starts dreaming about a handsome stranger, she begins to look forward to falling asleep every night. Reality isn't nearly as exciting. That is until her dream-stranger makes an unexpected real-life appearance, leaving Sarah questioning everything she thought she wanted.

Because no one ever really finds the person of their dreams... do they?

My Thoughts:

I enjoyed reading this book. It's a little bit different from her previous books, but not much. It's about Sarah's nightly dreams and her day to day life at her job and in private. It's charming and sweet and lovely (i could go on and on) to read and I smiled almost through the whole book. I also had tears in my eyes a few times. That's how good it was!

Unfortunately, it took me some time to finish this book, because of traveling and tired evenings. But if it wasn't for me being tired in the evenings and the traveling, then I would had finished it in 1-2 days. Luckily I got right back in it and continue reading without problem.

All in all, great book and I can't wait to read the christmas special of this one!

I hope you'll enjoy this blog and hopefully I will try to update it as often as I can ;)

Wish me luck!
Susanne

(I tried to do this in norwegian earlier this year but stopped for no reason so let's try again in english this time)

PS: It might be some supernatural gifs on this blog...(yep..i'm one of those :P)
